The Establishment of the First Brooklin High School

After the passage of the High School Act by the State, the first move towards the establishment of a high school in Brooklin was in 1876.  This did not include the whole town. It took in the Reach School and Corner School, a part of Naskeag  Road to Poodic Road and the Bay Road to Staples Corner.  Those outside the area had to pay tuition if they went to this High School.  The very first High School was held in the Town Hall, or Union Hall. It began about the first of October in 1876.  This photo above was built between 1897 and 1900 and burned in 1916.
